What should I wear?

You should wear absolutely whatever you want. Ladies, an Indian wedding is a pretty good excuse to wear a sari if you’ve ever wanted to wear one, but there will also be lots of people in cocktail dresses and other things. It’s not a formal-formal wedding (there will be a limited number of people in tuxes, for sure), so wear what you feel your best in.

Where do I buy a sari?

If you want to get a sari, there are some Indian stores around, as well as a few great websites online. Jess has ordered from this one and had good luck.

How on earth do I tie a sari?

There will be plenty of knowledgeable Indian women on hand to help if you need it, and there’s also this.

I’m vegetarian/vegan — am I going to be stuck eating salad all night?

Absolutely not! One of the perks of having Indian food at the wedding is that there’s something for just about every dietary restriction. And if you have concerns that you might not be covered, please let us know beforehand so we can make sure that you are!

How long does it take to get to Fredericksburg from DC?

We know many of our guests will be coming from the Northern Virginia/DC area, and, as many of us have experienced, Route 95 traffic to Fredericksburg can be a real drag. The trip should theoretically take an hour, but that really only happens in the middle of the night when there is limited traffic. All other times, sadly, you should probably count on somewhere in the 2-hour range.

Are you having kids at the wedding?

We’ve decided to give our friends with children a chance to cut loose and leave their kids at home. If you need help finding child care, please, please, please don’t hesitate to ask us!

You said it’s fine to come to only one ceremony or the other — do you really mean that?

We so do. Really. While we welcome you to attend both ceremonies (and have drinks and food in the brief break between them!), we know that might make for a too-long day for some folks, and that is totally okay. Please feel free to come to both ceremonies or just to one or the other (or, you know, just the reception, if you want!).
